Procedures General Information
Attendance
Schedule
Instructors are to organize their own class schedules,
laboratory hours and clinic or co-op sessions. Students can obtain additional copies
by asking their supervisor.
Attendance and
Active Participation
Attendance is monitored electronically and by the
instructor. Students are required to log onto and log out of the computer management system online
services at http://www.cbstraining.com/student/index.asp everyday.
Students receiving, grants, loans, government assistance,
OSAP or other financial assistance registered in a full-time program are
required to attend a minimum of 20 hours per week or more as required by
program schedule. Full Time students are not permitted to be away for
more than 3 consecutive days and must have a written doctors note in case
of absenteeism. The active student policy mandates those students that do
not adjure to mandatory attendance will be withdrawn from the program
unilaterally by the Institution as required by the performance agreement
of the student support branch of the Ontario Ministry of Training,
Colleges and Universities.
The school may disclose attendance records to appropriate
Agencies or Sponsor(s) at the end of each month or at the end of the
program, the attendance records may also be provided to Auditors for
verification as well as Service Canada, Ontario Ministry of Training, Colleges
and Universities or other Government or Non Government agencies; Student
Support Branch approved Auditors or any other respected regulatory bodies
or agencies governed by the Province of Ontario. The school shall adjure to its Privacy
Policies and shall not provide student information to unauthorized
agencies or individuals.
Absenteeism
In case a student is unable to attend class, the student
is required to email or telephone the school administrator or their
respective instructor to notify them of the expected absence. Where
absence continues for more than 3 consecutive days, a doctor's note must
be submitted by the student and will be kept in the student file.
Students who fail to perform the above duties will risk being withdrawn
from their respective programs.
Students that are unable to attend a class are required to
notify the school at least one hour prior to the scheduled commencement
time by email or telephone. If the
student does not show up for class and does not notify the school personal,
the teacher or school administrator may contact the student and marks
will be deducted towards the final grade. Please ensure classes are
attended on a regular basis and as a student youre always punctual.
If a computer related program causes the student to miss a
day or part of a day of classes, it may be possible to make up the time
by coming in earlier or leaving late for a few days until the total
hour(s) of missed class are covered.
Students can ask their supervisor to arrange these additional times.
Students that are unable to attend a class are required to

program under the Rules and Regulations set under the Performance
Agreement, by the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities,
Student Support Branch.
Breaks
Full -Time students that attend sessions of 4 hours or
more per day are allocated a hour lunch break. In addition, students
are encouraged to take periodic short breaks as suggested by their
supervisor in order to stretch and to rest their eyes, since extended
periods of physical inactivity coupled with intense concentration can
cause discomfort and eye strain. Please note that Instructors generally
take their lunch between 12:00 -12.30 or 12.30 - 1:00 pm. You will not
have any supervisors during that period if you decide to remain at your
desk.
Food Policy
The school Policy requires food and drink be consumed in
the lunch area or authorized areas within the building.
Telephone
Students are to use the pay telephone located in the
premises or bring their own mobile phone and use the phone in the
corridors outside the school.
Students are not permitted to use mobile devises within the
premises as these can distract others.
For urgent emergency calls the telephone in the front reception
desk can be used. This would include family emergencies and job-related
calls. You are permitted to give our telephone number to those who may
need to contact you in case of an emergency.
Mobile Phones,
Blackberries, MP3 players such as IPods, hand held games & other
mobile digital devices
Please refrain from using electronic devices in the study
area, hallways or within the school premises, as the noise can disturb
others. Unless these have been provided as part of your learning
resources and you have authority by your teacher to use the device in a
designated area.
Perfumes
As some students may suffer from allergic reaction, please
refrain from using strong perfumes while at school.
Dress Code
Students are expected to dress professionally &
appropriately, that is casually smart and clean. Students are not
permitted to be topless or be without foot ware within the building
premises. In addition, ladies are expected to refrain from wearing shorts
or skirts that are more than 5 inches above the knee and spaghetti string
tank tops.
Hygiene
Students are expected to be neat, clean and tidy, and
presentable at all times. If a student attends classes in a poor hygiene
condition or is sick, the student may be asked to go home until the
situation is rectified. Students
are encouraged to wash their hands on a regular bases in the washroom
basin. We also suggest students
refrain from attending classes if they have a cold or fever as a
preventive measure.
Health Issues
If students suffer from any health problems or carry a disease
they are required to disclose the information on registration form or
provide a note to administration in confidence. Health Care programs
require a doctors certificate and all mandatory requirements for such
programs to be met before admission.
Disability
Accommodation Policy
If a student does have special requirements the onus is on
the student to notify the school prior to commencing studies. The school
does have equity standards and it is the schools policy to provide
support where necessary.
The Internet
Students are encouraged to use the Internet to enhance
their learning experience. However sites with pornography, violence and
chat rooms or blogs not related to studies are not permitted. Also
extensive printouts of more than 2 pages are not permitted. Students may
be charged an additional service fee for printing materials from the
Internet that is not a part of the student course load.
Technology Virus /
Spamware, Adware
Due to the risk of computer virus infection, we request
that students use only the electronic devises, USBs & web sites
which are provided by Canadian Business College as part of the program.
Students are also asked not to download or print unauthorized documents
or files from the Internet from within the school. Students will be
charged a premium fee if they are found to violate this Policy. Please ensure all USBs inserted into
the computer are initially run through an anti-virus program.
Technology
Problems
Students experiencing any problem whatsoever related to
studies should bring it to the attention of the supervisor immediately.
Please be patient as technology problems do occur from time to time. If
there are other available workstations your trainer will ask you to move
to another computer in order to prevent any unnecessary down time.
Schedule
Students should have received a weekly/monthly schedule
sheet outlining the dates they are expected to complete each component of
the course within the first week of study. If this is not received ask
your trainer for a copy. Students are required to complete courses by the
end date and time specified on the enrolment contract. There are no
extensions provided for students sponsored through MTCU, OSAP, Service
Canada or a Corporate Sponsor nor are their exceptions for fee paying clients or International
students.
International
Students
If you are on a Student Visa and require any help on any
matter or are in need of documentation or advice, please ask the front
desk for assistance.
Certification Exams
Schedules can be arranged from the Administrative
department at specific location where the test is to be taken. If your
certification exam is pre-paid or included with your course you must
schedule the exam with the school and take all the tests at the school.
Tests & Exams
In general, the marks on tests are allocated as follows
for the business course:

General passing grade 75%
If a pass is not achieved on the first try, you may
rewrite the test at a later date in order to bring up the mark. However
10% of your total mark will be deducted in case of any retake.
Each department/program marking may vary and marking
schemes may differ in specific specialty regulated programs. E.g. Dental
Hygiene students are provided a separate manual with details related to
their program.
Evaluations
Evaluation sheets request your comments about the course,
the Instructor and the facilities in order to make ongoing changes to our
programs to best suit your needs. Your honest evaluation is greatly
appreciated. Please log on to our web site (www.cbstraining.com) to
submit your form.
Monthly Report
At the end of each month we will evaluate your progress,
moreover you will do a self-analysis.
Job Search
Assistance Program
This service is to assist those students who are looking
for a career change or a new career. This Job Search Assistance programs
is offered at no additional cost to Canadian students with a SIN Card.
Guest Speakers
Canadian Business College may from time to time invite
speakers to address students for the benefit of the student.
Field Trips
Students may be asked to go to trips such as to related
trade shows, or to companies related to studies. It is the responsibility
of students to arrange personal travel arrangements and any costs related
to the trip.
Diploma/Certificate
When a course is completed, the Diploma and transcript may
be picked up at the school or will otherwise be mailed to your place of
residence. As such, it is important that you give us your correct mailing
address or update your address with us if you move. A fee will apply if a
Diploma / Certificate or Transcript needs to be reissued.
Trainers
Canadian Business College trainers meet the requirements
set by the Ontario Ministry of Training, Colleges & Universities,
under the Private Career Colleges Act.
Classroom Learning
Most computer learning utilizes our blended learning
formula if you are participating in an Instructor led program additional
policies may apply . Your Instructor will advise you of any additional
rules and regulations pertaining to the specific class. Students attending Instructor led program
should be provided a set of guidelines from the faculty.
Computer Lab Time
Students are provided as much lab time necessary, in order
to keep track with scheduled time sheet. Students are required to inform
supervisors when additional lab time is required. Furthermore the school
cannot guarantee that Instructors will be available to help during
additional time.
Other Lab Time
Students should ask the head of the faculty or clinic of
rules and regulations for the program lab.
Facilities
The facilities are comfortable in a modern air-conditioned environment
building, close to public transportation and public parking. Classrooms
are equipped with all the necessary tools required for the scheduled
classes. Facilities include a kitchen where students may use the fridge
and microwave oven, coffee and a pop machine.
Code of Code of
Ethics
Students are expected to behave in a business like professional manner
and follow the Student Code of Ethics.
Quiet Enjoyment
This policy is in place in order for Canadian Business
College students to develop skills in an efficient manner.
If a student is disruptive or noisy they will be asked to
keep quiet or leave the premises. If no satisfactory change is made, the
student's studies may be terminated.
Suggestions,
Concerns and Evaluations
If students have suggestions or are not satisfied with any
aspect of the learning experience, they are asked to fill out the written
or electronic Evaluation Form in detail and submit it electronically to
the administrative office. Alternatively a hand written evaluation can be
handed over to the director.
Complaints
The first line for addressing complaints you may have is
to talk to the Instructor. If that does not solve the issue, you are
asked to arrange a meeting with a school counselor. If that does not
resolve the matter you are asked to arrange a meeting with the program
director or general manager. As a
last resort and only after trying to resolve the issue with the manager
written complaint should be submitted along with a request to meet with
the Dean who will than review the written complaint within 30 days and
respond with a meeting date and time of his choice. The Dean has the
authority to bring the complaint to the students complaint committee. If the decision is forwarded to the
appeal committee the appeal committee decision is final. Remember if we
don't know your concern, we will not be able to address it and suggest a
solution.

Privacy
Both the student and the school are expected to respect
confidentiality and not to disclose information without prior permission.
Copyright
Students are not permitted to copy computer software or
training manuals or undertake any other illegal activity within the
school premises. It is further understood that any software, multimedia
or animation developed within the school or with the schools assistance
will be deemed as school property. The student fully acknowledges this
copyright policy and will not make any personal claim(s).
Smoking
Smoking is not permitted in the building.
Damage
A student who damages or destroys the school or building
property will be subject to dismissal from the course without refund of
tuition and will be liable for replacement costs.
Dismissal /
Suspension & Fail
Canadian Business College reserves the right to fail,
suspend or dismiss students if they are found to be disruptive towards
teachers, supervisors, students or other personnel. Suspension can also
occur in case of failing grades, please ask the supervisor of the program
for the program rules and regulations specific to your course.
Dental Hygiene students should refer to their own program
manual. If this is lost or misplaced, a copy can be obtained from the
program director.
Loss, Theft or
Injury
The school is not responsible for loss of personal
property or for personal injury while on school premises. If a student is
found stealing from the school premises, the student will be terminated
and the school reserves the right to lay charges for any theft or
intentional damage to property or personnel.
Fees
The school reserves the right to hold on to credentials if
the fees are not paid in full. The fees are subject to change if the
contract is concluded or terminated by the school. Unpaid accounts will
be forwarded to a third party credit company for full recovery plus
interest and penalty.
Mailing
Canadian Business School, 1RDH, and Canadian Business
College are committed to providing students value added features such
as information with program updates, free trade show tickets to and the
yearly calendar together with our Newsletter "Focus on
Learning".
Change of Address
or Telephone Number
The student is responsible for notifying the school of any
change in information during and after study their study period.

The Student Shall

If for any reason, the above is breached, written
documentation will be provided and forwarded to the principal, and will
be kept in the students file.
ADMINISTRATIVE
POLICY AND PROCEDURES
Admissions
Requirements:
Mature Student Status
1. A mature student is an applicant who has reached the
age of 18 years on or before the commencement of the program in which he
or she intends to enroll.
2. The institution will verify that students admitted
without an OSSD have equivalent academic abilities (e.g., an appropriate
mature student admissions test). Canadian Business School will retain in
the student's file evidence of verification of equivalent academic
abilities.
Documentation
Canadian Business School will verify that the admissions requirements are
being met by retaining the following documentation in the student file:
1. High school graduates: a copy of Grade 12 transcripts,
diploma's, or equivalent.
2. Mature students: a copy of birth certificate or other official
government document that includes applicant's date of birth and the
results of the mature student admissions tests.
Canadian Business
College shall protect the privacy of the students and will follow the
policies set forth by the Confidentiality Provisions under the
Performance Requirements Document "Schedule A" of the Ontario
Student Support Branch of MTCU.

Fee Refund Policy as Prescribed under s. 25 to 33 of O.Reg.
415/06
25. (1) A private career college shall refund all of the
fees paid by a student under a contract for the provision of a vocational
program in the following circumstances:
1. The contract is rescinded by a person within two days
of receiving a copy of the contract in accordance with section 36 of the
Act.
2. The private career college discontinues the vocational
program before the student completes the program, subject to subsection
(2).
3. The private career college charges or collects the
fees,
i. before the registration was issued for the college
under the Act or before the vocational program was approved by the
Superintendent, or
ii. before entering into a contract for the provision of
the vocational program with the student, unless the fee is collected
under subsection 44 (3).
4. The private career college expels the student from the
college in a manner or for reasons that are contrary to the colleges
expulsion policy.
5. The private career college employs an instructor who is
not qualified to teach all or part of the program under section 41.
6. The contract is rendered void under subsection 18 (2)
or under section 22.
7. If a private career college fails to, or does not
accurately, provide in the itemized list provided to the Superintendent under
section 43 a fee item corresponding to a fee paid by a student for the
provision of a vocational program, the college shall pay the student,
i. in the case of an item not provided by the college, the
full amount of the fee for the item, and
ii. in the case of a fee in excess of the amount of the
fee provided for the item, the difference between the amount of the fee
for the item provided to the Superintendent and the fee collected.
(2) A full refund is not payable in the circumstances
described in paragraph 2 of subsection (1) if the discontinuance of the
vocational program coincides with the private career college ceasing to
operate.
(3) A refund is not payable under paragraphs 1 to 6 of
subsection (1) unless the student gives the private career college a
written demand for the refund.
(4) A refund under subsection (1) is payable by the
private career college within 30 days of the day the student delivers to
the college,
(a) in the case of a rescission under section 36 of the
Act, notice of the rescission; or
(b) in the case of a refund under paragraphs 2 to 6 of
subsection (1), a written demand for the refund.
Partial refund where student does not commence program
26. (1) If a student is admitted to a vocational program,
pays fees to the private career college in respect of the program and
subsequently does not commence the program, the college shall refund part
of the fees paid by the student in the following circumstances:
1. The student gives the college notice that he or she is
withdrawing from the program before the day the vocational program
commences.
2. In the case of a student who is admitted to a
vocational program on the condition that the student meet specified
admission requirements before the day the program commences, the student
fails to meet the requirements before that day.
3. The student does not attend the program during the
first 14 days that follow the day the program commenced and the college
gives written notice to the student that it is cancelling the contract no
later than 45 days after the day the program has commenced.
(2) The amount of a refund under subsection (1) shall be
an amount that is equal to the full amount paid by the student for the
vocational program, less an amount equal to the lesser of 20 per cent of
the full amount of the fee and $500.
(3) A refund under subsection (1) is payable,
(a) in the case of a refund under paragraph 1 of
subsection (1), within 30 days of the day the student gives notice of
withdrawing from the program;
(b) in the case of a refund under paragraph 2 of
subsection (1), within 30 days of the day the vocational program
commences; and
(c) in the case of a refund under paragraph 3 of
subsection (1), within 45 days of the day the vocational program
commences.
(4) For the purposes of paragraph 3 of subsection (1), it
is a condition of a contract for the provision of a vocational program
that the private career college may cancel the contract within 45 days of
the day the vocational program commences if the person who entered the
contract with the college fails to attend the program during the 14 days
that follow the day the vocational program commences.
(5) A private career college that wishes to cancel a
contract in accordance with subsection (4) shall give written notice of
the cancellation to the other party to the contract within 45 days of the
day the vocational program commences.
Partial refunds:
withdrawals and expulsions after program commenced
27. (1) A private career college shall give a student who
commences a vocational program a refund of part of the fees paid in
respect of the program if, at a time during the program determined under
subsection (3),
(a) the student withdraws from the program after the
program has commenced; or
(b) the student is expelled from the program in
circumstances where the expulsion is permitted under the private career
colleges expulsion policy.
(2) This section does not apply to vocational programs
described in sections 28 and 29.
(3) A private career college shall pay a partial refund
under this section only if the withdrawal or expulsion from the
vocational program occurs at a time during the program determined in
accordance with the following rules:
1. In the case of a vocational program that is less than
12 months in duration, the withdrawal or expulsion occurs during the
first half of the program.
2. In the case of a vocational program that is 12 months
or more in duration,
i. for the first 12 months in the duration of the program
and for every subsequent full 12 months in the program, the withdrawal or
expulsion occurs during the first six months of that 12-month period, and
ii. for any period in the duration of the vocational
program remaining after the last 12-month period referred to in
subparagraph i has elapsed, the withdrawal or expulsion occurs in the
first half of the period.
(4) If the student withdraws or is expelled from a
vocational program within the first half of a period referred to in
subsection (3), the amount of the refund that the private career college
shall pay the student shall be equal to the full amount of the fees paid
in respect of the program less,
(a) an amount that is equal to the lesser of 20 per cent
of the full amount of the fees in respect of the program and $500; and
(b) the portion of the fees in respect of the portion of
the period that had elapsed at the time of the withdrawal or expulsion.
(5) If the student withdraws or is expelled from a
vocational program during the second half of a period referred to in
subsection (3), the private career college is not required to pay the
student any refund in respect of that period.
(6) A private career college shall refund the full amount
of fees paid in respect of a period that had not yet commenced at the
time of the withdrawal or expulsion.
Partial refunds:
distance education programs
28. (1) This section applies to a vocational program that
is offered by mail, on the internet or by other similar means.
(2) A private career college shall give a student who
commences a vocational program referred to in subsection (1) a refund of
part of the fees paid in respect of the program if,
(a) the student withdraws from the program or the student
is expelled from the program in circumstances where the expulsion is
permitted under the private career colleges expulsion policy; and
(b) at the time of the withdrawal or expulsion, the
student has not submitted to the private career college all examinations
that are required in order to complete the program.
(3) The amount of the refund that a private career college
shall give a student under subsection (1) shall be determined in
accordance with the following rules:
1. Determine the total number of segments in the
vocational program for which an evaluation is required.
2. Of the total number of program segments determined
under paragraph 1, determine the number of segments in respect of which
an evaluation has been returned to the student.
3. The amount of the refund that the private career
college shall pay the student shall be equal to the full amount of the
fees paid in respect of the program less,
i. an amount that is equal to the lesser of 20 per cent of
the full amount of the fees in respect of the program and $500, and
ii. the portion of the fees in respect of the number of
segments determined under paragraph 2.
(4) A private career college is not required to give a
student any refund if the student, at the time of withdrawal or
expulsion, has been evaluated in respect of more than half of the total
number of segments in the program.
Partial refunds: non-continuous programs
29. (1) This section applies to a vocational program
approved by the Superintendent to be provided through a fixed number of
hours of instruction over an indeterminate period of time.
(2) A private career college shall give a student who
commences a vocational program referred to in subsection (1) a refund of
part of the fees paid in respect of the program if, before completing the
required number of hours of instruction,
(a) the student has given the college notice that he or
she is withdrawing from the program; or
(b) the student is expelled from the program in
circumstances where the expulsion is permitted under the private career
colleges expulsion policy.
(3) The amount of the refund that a private career college
shall give a student under subsection (1) shall be equal to the full
amount of the fees paid in respect of the program less,
(a) an amount that is equal to the lesser of 20 per cent
of the full amount of the fees in respect of the program and $500; and
(b) a portion of the fees in respect of the program that
is proportional to the number of hours of instruction that have elapsed
at the time of the withdrawal or expulsion.
(4) A private career college is not required to give a
student any refund if the student, at the time of withdrawal or
expulsion, has completed more than half of the required number of hours
of instruction in a program.
No retention of
refund
30. A private career college shall not retain, by way of
deduction or set-off, any refund of fees payable to a student under
sections 25 to 29 in order to recover an amount owed by the student in
respect of any service or program other than a vocational program offered
by the private career college.
Treatment of books
and equipment
31. In calculating a refund under sections 25 to 29, a
private career college may retain the retail cost of books or equipment
that the private career college supplied to the student if the student,
(a) fails to return the books or equipment to the private
career college within 10 days of the students withdrawal or expulsion
from the program, or
(b) returns the books or equipment to the private career
college within the 10-day period referred to clause (a), but fails to
return it unopened or in the same state it was in when supplied.
Refund for
international students
32. A notice to a private career college that is provided
by or on behalf of an international student or of a prospective
international student and that states that the student has not been
issued a temporary resident visa as a member of the student class under
the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (Cana234da) is deemed to be,
(a) notice of a rescission of the contract for the
purposes of section 36 of the Act if the notice is given within two days
of receiving a copy of the contract; and
(b) notice that the student is withdrawing from the
program for the purposes of paragraph 1 of subsection 26 (1) or clause 29
(2) (a) if the notice is received on or before half of the duration of
the program has elapsed.
Currency
33. Any refund of fees that a private career college is
required to pay under the Act shall be paid in Canadian dollars.
